Google is going against apple (and all the others) with wave

Most of you probably heard about Google Wave or even saw the presentation held yesterday at the developpers I/O.

Google Wave presentation

In case you would like a summary of it, you can read this really good article by Tim O’Reilly “What might email look like if it were invented today

I modified this article following feedbacks on Twitter.

Basically Wave is about start the new social e-commerce trend, put on the side of the road quite a lot of translators, revolutionize the way we collaborate (and consequently “either be a threat or an opportunity for bluekiwi, microsoft exchange, outlook, jira and other project management tools like this one) and I could continue like this for quite a long time… But there will be time for that and I will be back for having a closer look at it and the business possibilities behind it.

What I wanted to point out is that Google Wave, combined with Android is the first real threat (and by far the biggest compared to the Palm Pre, the loved Blackberry) to the Appstore business model.

Google Wave is entirely open source, based on the new HTML 5, programming based on Java and runs on both computers and mobile phones (it is said to require only 5% extra time to make an app seamingless running on a desktop and a mobile browser).

The integration between the different waves is incredibly user friendly and intuitive, you can develop waves for your own company environnements and still host all information on your own servers without relying on external services (Some information are quite critical and sensitive and even if I’m a fan of cloud computing, some managers and CEOs may prefer to keep it “home”, which Apple does not propose). And almost anything can be integrated into a wave thanks to the powerful API Google is about to propose, with a huge crowdsourced enthousiam for it.

Just by looking at the mentions about Wave on Twitter, you might easily realize that Bing has been merely killed in the egg and that no services has been so positively welcomed for years.

I’m sorry but I need to get myself a Gphone 2 and fight for an invitation for a sneak preview / alpha testing of Google Wave…

I will review the presentation in order to see the impact on the business side.
